ABOUT US

Founded in 1997, the organization initially began by opening and operating a food pantry at the Mount Hope Mosque in The Bronx, distributing halal food to a needy population of immigrants, primarily (but not limited to) West African Muslims. Interaction with the pantry's clientele, who are primarily women, led to an awareness on the part of the pantry's founder, that their transitional and basic needs were not adequately being met.  This understanding was the catalyst for developing MWIRD, an organization to establish programs that provide community service that empowers members of The Bronx communities we serve.
